John Mann IV of Centereach, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York, United States was 17 when he and Henry Hernandez of Hempstead, Nassau County, Long Island became acquaintances in March 2019. The latter was 16. Shortly after meeting Mann, Hernandez went to Mann's home in Centereach and stole the truck of Mann's father. On June 2, 2019, Mann lured Hernandez to a location in Centereach known as the Sand Pit where the former duct-taped the latter. Mann, who had previously been charged with second-degree murder, admitted killing Henry Hernandez after he took Mann's father's pickup truck and damaged it.
