Police say the 25-year-old man murdered Rebecca Carlson and left her body near a dumpster in South Hempstead. SOUTH HEMPSTEAD, NY — An Elmont man has been charged with the murder of a woman whose body was found by a dumpster in South Hempstead on Feb. 14. Andrew D. Avila, 25, of Elmont, was arrested in connection with the murder of 39-year-old Rebecca Carlson, of Hempstead, police said. Police received a call at 7:40 a.m. on Feb. 14 for a woman lying on the ground next to a dumpster in the back of Advanced Auto Parts, located at 1140 Grand Ave.
